As much as I like Beyonce I gotta go with Ms. Franklin and I'm going to tell you why. First I haven't been into the pop sound since the Backstreet Boys (Yeah I said it! Don't front on them, they had some songs. I didn't buy their albums so I protected my honor). I'm an R&B head. I love Teena Marie, Brian McKnight, Mary J Blige, Teddy Pendegrass, Barry White, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Patti LaBelle, Bobby Brown (pre-crack addiction), K-Ci and JoJo (pre-crack), and I guess you can throw Michael Jackson (pre-everything you can think of) into the mix. There are a lot more I can name but you get the idea.
There's nothing like that smooth shit. It can fit so many moods you go through on a daily basis. You got it all with this genre. Who more than Aretha embodies that? Really?
Beyonce has vocal skills but her package to some extent is driven by what's hot now oppose to being the trailblazer. Having a bunch of girls, and some guys, singing along to your sh*t and watching your videos on youtube a 100 times is not the mark of a legend. She can put out some great records but I haven't really been too impressed since her first album.
That's basically my take on this matchup. This definitely won't be the last time I throw up a matchup. It won't be restricted to music. It could be anything (Sports, Media, etc.). So stay tune.
