The artist formerly known as Common Sense was one of many poets that First Lady Michelle Obama invited to her poetry event. Anybody familiar with the rapper's lyrics can understand why Common was on the First Lady's radar. Common is a talented dude. Like Mos Def, he can act his a$$ off one minute and then jump on the microphone to do his thing with ease. During my senior year, my long ass report included a poetry section. I used Common's lyrics from the "Sixth Sense" to represent what I was going through back then. I didn't know if my teacher, a Black woman, was a fan of hip hop or not. So instead of taking a chance I used Common's government name in my report. When I got my report back I got an A...and the teacher noted she was feeling Common's rhymes. I bet she would cop his album, Like Water For Chocolate, if she knew who he was.
It's nice to see positive hip hop in a positive light. I can't remember the last time the First Lady invited a rapper to the White House to be involved in their event. I can't remember the last time a respectable rapper getting so much criticism from the Republican party. Every time the Obamas want to do something they have to add their two cents. When word got out that he would be attending Mrs. Obama's event, the haters came out in full force. The below is courtesy of REUTERS:
Among those critical of the invitation were Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Beck ridiculed the White House invitation Wednesday morning on his radio show, for example, by saying, sarcastically, "The president and the first lady, of course -- of course -- are not anti-cop."
Limbaugh on Wednesday called Common an "artiste" and suggested that only uneducated rubes would dare criticize his lyrics. He was also being sarcastic.
Hannity, on his Fox News TV show Tuesday night, went through a litany of Common's alleged offenses. When a guest accused Hannity of advocating censoring poets, he responded: "I don't want to censor them. Should he be in the White House? Big difference."
These A-holes will use anything they can find to push their agenda of bringing down the Obamas. With this one they used a classic media move - use the rapper's lyrics against them. By saying Common's lyrics are violent and that he dissed the police, not to mention George W. Bush, they are blatantly applying that our president shares the same views. When it comes to ignorance, bias and bullsh*t antics, you can count on the conservative news to pull no punches.
They say Common attended the event later on in the evening and that Michelle Obama didn't mention his name. That's understandable, giving the Republicans more ammo would have taken away from her event and the other poets. I'm sure Common was cool with it, but judging from one of his tweets he must be wondering "Why the f*ck is Sarah Palin and Fox News on my d*ck?"
Check out the video below and see what they put on T.V. these days. Damn SMFH.

LET THE WOMAN SPEAK YOU STUPID HOLIER THAN THOU B*TCH! She didn't have a leg to stand on and I can't stand that she kept cutting off the sista. That's why I look at The Daily Show and Colbert Report with higher regard. Those two guys may be comedians at heart, but they have more COMMON SENSE than the entire FOX News channel
What do you guys think? Let's talk about it.
