Is There Really A Black Hollywood????

He gotta be tired of dressing up like a bitch? On second thought...
When Hollywood comes to mind all I see is sequels, prequels, remakes and superhero adaptations.  I mean when was the last time you threw down $11-$14 on a movie that didn't remind you of a movie or two.  A couple of people might yell out Avatar but that's just some nature lover's re-imagining of history's ever repeating match up between the Conquering Explorers and the Natives (Black, Brown, Red and Yellow ya'll hear me!). The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? You can see whole trilogy if you cop the Swedish versions.  Shit, if you can't keep up with the subtitles they have English dubbed!  If you have time on your hands theirs always the books!

You would think Black Hollywood would have no problem with researching and developing creative films for the big screen right?  I think so.  At the end of the day I don't believe the bullshit that the so called analysts or the film execs locked up in their fancy offices say about black films not being marketable.  If they're not presented with a movie with a bunch of dancers or a black cast featuring a cross dresser they don't want shit to do with it.

If I want to see a bunch of bitches flying around they're going to have pussies, g-strings and a pole!!!!

If Black Hollywood was an independent nation then Tyler Perry would be the undisputed Head Nigga In Charge.  Unlike Spike Lee and other black filmmakers before his rise, Tyler doesn't scare White People.  To some, the "sell out" label would be justifiable but the fact that the Black community continue to support him gives him the ability to fall into the Bryant Gumbel or Wayne Brady category.  His success allows him to remain in his comfort zone without having to switch up a formula that hasn't failed him yet.  The fact that Tyler Perry keeps bringing back Madea and films whose core features an ensemble cast predominantly Black is proof of Hollywood playing it safe with movies they could never truly understand but can market to a niche market.

When I heard George Lucas was making a movie about the Tuskegee Airmen I didn’t give a fuck.  I think HBO had made a movie about these pilots back in the day.  The only time I want to hear about Lucas is when he gets around to making some more Star Wars movies (Hopefully better than the last three) or a decent Indiana Jones movie.  The fact that George Lucas went through hell to get Red Tails in theaters.  If a guy, and a White guy, whose made some of the most profitable movies of all time can’t get a studio front the money to market and distribute a project he reportedly came out of pocket to make you start to see that high ass wall his Black counterparts have to leap over in order to just bring something to the table.  If the man who created Star Wars can't get the benefit of the doubt from the studios because he made a Historical Black movie with an all Black leading cast is another sign of an industry swirling the drain of imaginative and innovative storytelling.  Plus it’s kind of fucked up that this was Cuba Gooding Jr.’s first half way respectable acting gig since...nevermind smh.

This nigga can't catch a break smh

Every race are multi-dimensional in their own way.  As far as the way we live, laugh, love, fuck and respond to the police driving behind us we all have our own way that an outsider will look at with a blank stare.  That’s what I look like when I try to watch a full episode of Seinfeld or Two and a Half Men.  I guess I know where these movie execs are coming from when they watch a movie featuring a leading Black Man without cornrows or a crack empire.
